sidebar lost after installation

I’m setting up a site and I just installed Simple Subscribe v. 1.5.8.
I added a subscribe widget to the sidebar and now, all of the sudden, the sidebar is gone.
I removed the widget, deactivated the plugin but nothing changed..
What can be wrong?
