• As I am nearing capacity in regards to bandwidth usage on my blog I thought I’d check to see if I had any old/large files I could get rid off. I noticed that the share-this plugin I had installed was a bit of a hog:

    /notebook/wp-includes/js/prototype.js — 42.74MB (that’s just this past week’s worth of bandwidth.)

So, silly me, I thought I’d deactivate it. But when I did I suddenly lost the entire right-hand sidebar of my blog. See https://www.quietfish.com/notebook.

I reactivated the plugin and the sidebar came back. I deactivated it and it disappeared again.

Ideas? This is freaking me out a little. And I’m afraid I won’t have the skills to fix this.

/wp-includes/js/prototype.js is not part of any plugin. It’s part of WordPress. You cannot remove it.

As for the plugin, if you have code to call that plugin in your sidebar, and then deactivate the plugin, your sidebar doesn’t work because it can’t access that plugin anymore. Edit your sidebar to remove the code that calls upon that plugin before you deactivate it.

Hmmm. Well if the .js file is part of WordPress I won’t worry about deactiviating the plugin. Thank you!
