instal on ixwebhosting

  • Okay I’m in pain here. I’ve been trying to get wp to install and still no luck. I followed all the instructions. Very helpful thanks yet still keep getting the error message when i go to setup:

    Error establishing a database connection

    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql22.ixwebhosting.com . This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
    I’m no genius but can follow instructions. I can’t see where I’m messing up here. Any help would eb appreciated. Suggestions?

  • Most of the time this problem is one of two things:

    1. Information is wrong in wp-config.php. Are you sure the information is correct? Do you have any extra spaces before/after each of the values specified (e.g. you have ‘mysql22.ixwebhosting.com ‘ <–note extra space at end, instead of ‘mysql22.ixwebhosting.com’)? See Editing wp-config.php

    2. The database server is down–check with your host or use phpMyAdmin to access that database server.

    okay thanks I’ll look at these next and try again.

    I just finished installing it. No problems so far. Did you try contacting ix’s tech support?

    remember that when you create a database on ixwebhosting they add your name to it…

    So you create a database called “wordpress” and it will actually appear as “”daryl_huwordpress” or something similar. Check your config screen and it should tell you.
