Sudden error message when uploading images from iPhone to computer

When trying to upload photos that were taken using Instagram (and after they were offloaded from my phone to my computer) I get an error message when trying to upload them from my computer into a post. This is a new issue that happened all of a sudden and I\’m not sure why and I have no idea how to fix it.
Please note that I have always used instagram photos for my posts, and this is an issue that happened suddenly. I’m able to upload older photos (taken over 6 months ago), but nothing taken within the last 6 or so months. I upgraded my iPhone from a 4 to a 5 during this time. Could that be it? Please help! I have done no posts for over 2 weeks now because of this issue!
My husband says he thinks it’s a resizing issue since this happened when I offloaded my photos from my phone to the computer. I AM able to upload photos into wordpress just fine from my phone when I take these steps: email individual photos from my phone to myself (I get an option to send them in different sizes, and I click “medium”), then I download them from the email onto my computer and then upload them into the post no problem at all.
