I am trying to upgrade from 2 to the newest version, 2.1.1. All I can see is version 2. I followed the upgrade instructions to the tee. My webhost has outdated versions of MySql and PHP. Is that why I can’t see the upgraded version of WordPress?

  • The latest version of WordPress is 2.1.3.

Your hosts versions of MySQL and PHP don’t matter unless they don’t meet the requirements.

It sounds like you still have 2.0 files in place. Please review your procedures at Upgrading WordPress.

Thanks Michael. Yes, my host has lower versions of PHP and MySQL than what is listed on the hosting requirements. That being said, is that the reason or should I double check again?

    I did download 2.1.3, I checked…

Well 2.1 and higher will not run if your MySQL version is less than 4.0. If you deleted your 2.0 files as is suggested in Upgrading WordPress then you may have to restore your backup to 2.0. But it does look as if your blog is okay for the moment.

If your host does not meet the 2.1 requirements then it is highly recommended you upgrade to Version 2.0.10 of WordPress. The 2.0.10 zip file can be found at https://www.ads-software.com/download/release-archive/

    Hello Michael,
I upgraded to a new server at my webhost and in the process my blog database was deleted. The backup .sql and .zip files I made cannot be read. (Says “unable to archive, operation not permitted” when I click on them. When I try to import to my new server, it says there is no data.

I am heartbroken, I put a lot of time and effort into my blog. I am changing webhosts and will then download the newest version of WordPress. However, is there anywhere my posts might be stored so I can salvage them?
    Thank You

I decided to work it out with my webhost, but started a fresh new blog and will be deleting the other one. I figured a fresh new start would be good. I tried transferring in my posts with an .xml file, but had so many issues with it. The posts wouldn’t transfer in. I figured I could spend days fining out why, or start anew and move on to other things!
