  • Hi @tangcla,

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.

So before 3rd of December was the plugin working fine on your site?

If yes then have you added/updated/deleted anything on your site that caused this issue?

Could you please try smushing images uploaded to your site on the following Yahoo smush it service by adding the uploaded images URLs in the following service?

    https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/

If you can then please also share some uploaded image URLs from your site to me so that i can troubleshoot it.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Vinod,
Here’s an example of a bad response image: https://www.tangcla.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/1J4C6252.jpg

I went to smushit.com/ysmush.it and tried both the upload and URL method, I get the following in the large box: Smush.it did not find any saving of your image(s).

and Smushed iamges (underneath) just stays at “Loading…”

    Hi @tangcla,

    Thank you for your reply.

It seems something is preventing to access images from your site to Yahoo smush.it service.

I have just downloaded you shared image and uploaded to my test site and it gets smushed successfully from my test site without any issue. You can just test it by using the following image URL.

    https://cupelthemes.com/wpmu/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/1J4C6252.jpg

This can be due to firewall on your server or any security plugin that you are using so try temporary disabling all security/cache plugins if any from your development site.

Which hosting provider are you using?

Hi Vinod, I’m using Justhost – I haven’t changed providers.
I have iThemes Security (disabled because it’s been bothering me) and WP Super Cache as the only two possible culprits that I can think of.

    Howdy,

    Exact same issue here.

I’ve whitelisted the ip of yahoo smush it, and unchecked enforce image url is same as Home, but that does not resolve the issue.

I have a .htaccess to force the rewrite to https://www. Could that be causing the issue? If so, is the an easy fix?

    Best

    Hello,

I’ve been having the same issue for a couple weeks. I get the bad response error message when using Smush it plug-in. The WP site is a development site. I tried disabling security and cache plug-ins and that didn’t help. I also loaded the images to the https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/ URL. They loaded and compressed the images fine. So what does that mean? My hosting provider is Blue Host. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks,

    Lisa

We installed the Smush.it plugin yesterday and it seemed to work correctly but today we get the Bad Response message from Smush.it.

Tried to smush images on https://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/ the same way Tangcla did and received the same error message.

We have recently installed W3 Total Cache and, like mapleleaf33, we also have a .htaccess rewrite to https://www.

Seems the https rewrite is a likely culprit, but we are lacking in IT expertise and hesitant to change this if it isn’t the correct fix because of site security. Is it possible the .htaccess rewrite is the cause, and if so, is there a way to use Smush.it and maintain our https settings?

    Hi there,

For those who are using HTTPS and redirects, i want to tell you that yahoo does not allows urls with https and Yahoo smush service do not downloads any file from a URl which have any kind of redirects.

We tried to resolve HTTPS issue by replacing it with HTTP as described by plugin developer in his following reply but it doesn’t work in case of redirection.

For others this can also be due to plugin/theme conflict.

To find find out plugin/theme conflict you can just try on your development site using default WordPress theme like Twenty Thirteen and deactivating all other plugins as displayed in the following flowchart to know which theme/plugin is conflicting if any.
