• I’ve been using distraction free mode for a long time and been happy with it. However, now with the 4.1 update, it leaves distraction free mode whenever I try to navigate the page, and it is very, well… distracting. The writing space also doesn’t fill out the space like before.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the 4.1 update and revert to how it was?

    Thank you.

    Anna

Ps. I write in html mode.

  • I’m afraid the only solution is to downgrade to 4.0. I wouldn’t recommend this, as you’ll lose the security updates that were made in 4.1, but here’s how to downgrade:

Download version 4.0.1 from here: https://www.ads-software.com/download/release-archive/

Log into your site via FTP, and delete the following:

    wp-includes directory
    wp-admin directory
All other WordPress files in the root directory except .htaccess and wp-config.php

Upload the 4.0.1 copies of all of the above (again, do not upload .htaccess or wp-config.php)

Log into your site. You’ll be asked to “upgrade” the database (it’s actually a downgrade).

Once that’s complete, you’ll be back to 4.0.1

Again, I do not recommend doing this. Outdated versions of WordPress are at significant risk of getting hacked.

Thank you for your Matt. I will follow your advice and not downgrade. I’m slowly getting used to the new “distraction free” interface; I still think it is much more distracting than the old one.
