• I have a wordpress site, created by someone else, where wordpress is being used for its content management aspect (no blog or anything).

I want to add a blog to it, and have decided to take this on myself.

Following the instructions here: https://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-add-a-blog-to-your-wordpress-website.html , I have attempted to add a new page, and set it as a posts page.

The problem is, the point at which (under Settings>Reading) where I set “Front Page” and “Posts Page” (step 6), the new posts page starts looking like my front page.

What would cause this? Is it something to do with templates? I’m not sure how to go forward from here.

  • Can you post the link to your site so that we know what you see right now and what you are expecting?

Yes, that is correct. If you select your blog page as Front Page, then it will show it as your website’s front page.

If you wish to your Home page as Front Page, then select the “Front Page” and “Posts Page” as Home. So that it will not change the Front page of your website.

For blog, you can create a separate navigation menu link and publish the posts there.

These changes are not live – I’m trying to make these changes on a local copy (using DesktopServer).

The site in question is decezy.com. There is no blog part of this website at the moment.

Dan, I set the “Front Page” option as Home (which I think is the existing main page of the website), and “Posts Page” as my new blog page (News), as per this screenshot: https://imgur.com/yXvDKuf

Are you saying both of those options should point to “Home”?

Yes, right. For both “Front Page” and “Posts Page” set it as Home. And as I mentioned earlier, for blog, you can create a separate navigation menu link and publish the posts there.

OK Dan, I’ll give that a shot.

How do I control where the posts are published to? I dont seem to have that much control within the Edit Post page.

Dan, this didnt help at all.

Now the home page is showing all of the other pages within it, and not its original static content.

Done a little more investigation. If I select another static page (like the download page” as the “Front Page”, and the blog page as the “POsts Page”, then t he blog page still looks like the home page. I’m tearing my hair out here.

I have fired up a default wordpress installation, and this works fine. Nothing like my live site does. The instructions from my first post work perfectly.

What could be causing my live site to behave so differently?
