• Hi,

Recently I cannot login into my website via wordpress, this was working a couple of days ago and now I can’t get back in!

I’ve tried to get wordpress to send me a new password but it doesn’t come through to my emails, (my emails are working for other messages etc).

Does anyone know how I can get in touch with wordpress to help me resolve this or I will never be able to get into my website to modify it? Or is anyone else aware of how I can change this?

    Thanks,

  • Are you referring to WordPress.com or a self-hosted WordPress install?

    www.ads-software.com which is self hosted.

    Thanks,

When you first tried to log in and it didn’t let you, what was the message? Did it just say wrong password?

Yes it says ERROR: Incorrect Username or Password.

But then when I try to get an email sent to my email address to reset it I never receive anything through. It did this a couple of months back and I couldn’t log in then I went onto my computer the other day and it worked for a short while but now it has logged me out again ??

    Thanks,

What plugins have you installed? You could try renaming the plugins folder inside /wp-content/ to something like “plugins_past.”

That’ll disable all plugins, then try again.

This will rule out the possibility that a plugin is causing this through a compatibility issue.

Also, have you made any changes to the .htaccess file? Is there one both in the root folder and in the wp-admin folder?

I haven’t had chance to install any plug ins as far as I am aware and I haven’t knowingly changed the .htaccess file as this is quite technical and I am new to this.

Do you know if I disable the wordpress folders and reinstall them this may work or would you still be registered with the same password and username?

    Thanks,

If you delete all WordPress files and folder and reupload them, then (if the problem is not in your database or your server) that should fix any file/plugin issues. So it may work.

BUT make sure that you do not delete the wp-config.php file (it’s located in your main folder – where WordPress is installed)! And also, if you have uploaded any files, plugins or themes – make sure that you have a backup as you will otherwise loose these too (they are found in the wp-content folder).

On the other hand, if you have done absolutely nothing with the site since the initial install, you could rule all database issues too by also deleting the wp-config.php file and either emptying your database completely (removing all entries and tables) or delete the entire database and create a new one to replace it. This would then be a completely new install – naturally, no data from your current instalment would be left in tact.

If all that doesn’t work, it can really only be a server issue.
