• Hi all,

I created a website using wordpress in its own subdirectory https://www.siteurl.com/wordpress and I followed the steps in https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
    but I keep getting:

    Internal Service Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I have no idea what’s wrong. I’ve tried the method from relocating it from a subdirectory so the website will show up with the link https://www.siteurl.com.

I have a dash in the subdirectory, does that affect it at all?

  • Make a backup of your .htaccess file and then delete it, and see if that clears things up.

If that works, instead of restoring the .htaccess file, go ahead and change your permalinks setting to any other setting and then change it back to your preferred setting, this will prompt WordPress to create a new .htaccess file with the correct settings.
