Category association not processed if import has more the 20 posts

When I try to import only the list of 20 posts, the categories associated with each post are created and the posts receive the association with them.
If the import is larger than 20 posts, the categories are created however each post only received the default category.
I am actually migrating from a niche blog software, and write the XML via export scripts. Any further thoughts on this?
