Content boxes and/or tagline activated: homepage not responsive

The theme is usually responsive – no problems. But when content boxes and /or tagline are active on the homepage, the homepage isn’t responsive anymore. When downsizing the browser window, the boxes are being compressed to the left side, and at some point vanish. On a 5.2” smartphone screen only the logo, menu and (still) tagline can be seen. So the page looks very empty.
Is there any way to change that?
