    The plot thickens…

I have not received any confirmation emails. So I changed to single opt-in and added another email address. This has not been added to the mailchimp dashboard.

However, I added the official mailchimp widget and added to the sidebar.

I then added the same email address and mailchimp returned that it was already subscribed – I clicked on the Mailchimp link and it said that it would provide an email for me to update my details. This has not arrived either.

    Is there a mailchimp issue?

    Hi Accuratelimited,

Is your list set to single or double opt in currently?

It looks like you have things set to single opt-in. I had no issues signing up myself, here is the screenshot of the confirmation email: https://www.diigo.com/item/image/4s1ed/w87b

I should successful y be on the list. Do you see me there?

    Thanks,
    Evan

    Hi Evan,

I apologise, as I said in my second message, I changed the details to single opt-in. I now see you and the one other email that I added.

I have now changed back to double opt-in should you wish to test again.

Please use the signup on the homepage or on the other link if you’d like to test again. The sidebar widget is the official plugin.

I added emailaddress1 (lets call it) via your plugin on double optin. Then tried it again using the mailchimp and it didn’t say it was subscribed (but also didn’t get that confirmation email). In contrast, the other one I added as a single optin, did.

Given that these have now added, the problem seems to be that mailchimp isn’t sending emails. (?)

Ah sorry Evan, I have no emails. I didn’t see the image.

No worries, I’m going to sign up with an alternate email. I’ll let you know if I get the opt-in message.

Also, as a side note : any new subscribers to the list may not appear on the subscriber list for a few minutes. It seems to take a little bit for Mail Chimps cache to catch up.

    Hey Accuratelimited,

I did signup with my personal email. I haven’t received a confirmation email.

On the manage list forms page, in the dashboard, can you try clicking on ‘Re-import fields from MailChimp’

You may have had a previously setup interest group, and the form stored on your site doesn’t match the form on your mail chimp account.

Also can you check the list over on MailChimp and make sure the merge variables match up with what’s appearing in your dashboard?

    “2015-01-22 19:23:54 GMT nope 217.XXX.XXX.192 lists/interest-groupings json 0.036s MailChimp-PHP/2.0.4 2.0 (211) List_InvalidOption”

this error you mentioned before leads me to believe MailChimp is expecting a interest group selection, but there isn’t a location for it on your sign up form.

I don’t see the same view as you (no merge variables) but clicking on edit it shows

    EMAIL or MERGE0
    FNAME or MERGE1
    LNAME or MERGE2

Edited: These are the same that appear on the list.

There are no segments or interest groups setup as far as I can see but don’t know where these would be. I am somewhat at a loss.

    Edited: Nothing has been added.

However, please bear in mind that the official app (in the sidebar) does not send an email either.

Hmmm, that’s strange that neither the official app, nor our plugin is working.

Are you still getting those error messages in the MailChimp API Log?

    Plugin Author Evan Herman

    (@eherman24)

I did just test the form out on a localhost install I have running, and double opt-ins did work as expected. I’m wondering if it has something to do with a setting in the provided API class file.

Can you toggle SSL verify peer to false on the debug settings page (to test). If that doesn’t work, just toggle it back.

    Hi Evan,

I’ve gone in, moved a few things around. Tried adding a few things. Things now seem to be happening. Also got the original email confirmations.

I apologise, I may have wasted your time.

I did not, however, get a forwarded email in the same way.

I apologise for wasting your time.

One request tough, is their a pro version that when a subscriber is already added you can adjust the email sent. It doesn’t look as nice as the Mailchimp version which provides more details about the account it was sent from

    (@eherman24)

    Hi David,

No worries at all. I’m glad you were able to get things working. You didn’t waste my time at all, I was already on the comp and doing some work :).

The important thing is you got it working!

We don’t currently have a pro version of the plugin. We initially developed and continue to support the plugin as one of our ways of giving back to the community.

What sort of email were you referring too? The confirmation email, or the welcome email once accepting the confirmation? Or are you referring to the email that gets sent with the update link?

At the moment, that can’t be adjusted. During the initial build of the plugin, I considered that issue myself. I wrote to the MailChimp API support team asking if I was missing a function that enabled the email. They told me while their currently is no function to send the update email, I could construct an email with a dynamically generated link based on the logged in users details. Which is the route I took.

I could see it being possible for the plugin user to construct the email themselves using a WYSIWYG editor via the settings page, but that would be something I would need to build into the plugin in future releases.

    (@accuratelimited)

That makes sense Evan, I see where you are coming from now.

Yes, I was referring to the update email. I assume the others come direct from MailChimp.

May I ask for the text to be slightly changed in future releases? Can you maybe take the name of the list and include that as the subject line followed by Profile Option.

Great plugin otherwise, and a lot more adaptable than the MailChimp version. Really, all I wanted was placeholders as space is at a premium.

    Plugin Author Evan Herman

    (@eherman24)

    Hi David,

We will consider altering the text, or at least implementing some sort of filters to let users customize the subject and message that gets sent.

    Thanks,
    Evan
