Error from last API Key attempt: wordpress stats

  • dl’d and installed latest version. it is installed on the root of the webserver site and currently working fine. except for this stats plugin.. i copied and pasted my api key exactly into the config file at the top where it says it can be hard coded. the error i get is:

    Error from last API Key attempt:
    Your blog was unable to connect to WordPress.com. Please ask your host for help. (transport error – could not open socket: 110 Connection timed out)

    The WordPress.com Stats Plugin is not working because it needs to be linked to a WordPress.com account.

    An API Key is present in the source code but it did not work.

  • This message means that there was a problem when your blog tried to connect to WordPress.com. If you have retried and the process keeps failing, there is something wrong with your blog host.

    Please ask your host for help.

    Yes, I am having the same problem as well. Can you please suggest what kind of problem it might be ? I have my own web server, but completely lost to figure out where the problem might be. How does the wordpress blog try to connect to internet ?
