This is from a previous post that was closed, but the issue was not resolved, and continues to happen, including yesterday. Could someone please bump this to a higher level of expertise. Also, please don’t close the topic until it is resolved. Thanks.

    Here is the original post…

I’ve tried a few other threads, but since I haven’t received any replies, I hope posting a new one will help resolve this issue.

The problem is that my comment settings change by themselves without any input from me. Every few days, I find I have to go into my discussion settings and put them back where they belong.

    My discussion settings should be:

-Comment author must fill out name and e-mail CHECKED
-Users must be registered and logged in to comment UNCHECKED

In the individual posts, the “Allow comments” box should be CHECKED.

Does anyone know why these settings keep changing by themselves, and how I can remedy this? There are no other users or admins for this blog.

    Thanks. -Richard

there is no “higher” or “low” level. This forum is staffed by volunteers.

problem is that my comment settings change by themselves

Try a few basic troubleshooting steps:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try resetting the plugins foldervia FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    >>deactivating ALL plugins temporarily<<
    >>unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme for a moment<<

This won’t do the trick, since it can sometimes take days or weeks for the problem to show up.

I only use a six plug-ins, and I keep them updated. I had this problem long before I started using them.

I am still experiencing this issue. Every few weeks I have to go through page after page of posts in bulk, 300 at a time. Why won’t my comments settings stay where I put them?

I continued to experience this problem until I changed web hosts. I am now with GreenGeeks since August, and the problem is solved. I expect the issue was with poorly coded and maintained databases with my old host, iPower. I DO NOT recommend iPower; Poor customer service and frequent outages.
