Hey Guys, I guess this is a two part question… How do you activate or install a SSL certificate to your site?

And secondly, can you still install a SSL certificate if you’re only using basic paypal? Should you? The reason I ask is because I’ve been without it for several years now, and my site isn’t a success by any stretch of the imagination. Granted is more like a hobby and I don’t put much effort into it. But I’m wondering if I can convert a few more sales with a SSL certificate. You see I put myself in the buyer’s shoes. Someone who’s only a consumer, who doesn’t know what words like domain, server, wordpress means. Ideally you would hope that everyone’s thought process is like this.. “Hmmm, this site has no badges, no seal of approval, etc. But it’s okay, they’re using paypal.” But I’m realizing many probably don’t understand the difference between a site taking paypal, versus a site taking your credit card info. They probably have the same paranoia either way, like thinking their paypal login credentials is not secure from my site.

So I’m thinking of installing a SSL certificate, but I wanted clarification whether or not it’s only permitted if you’re taking credit cards directly. Or, can you still install it even if you don’t plan to take CC directly. Please advise, thank you!

You can install an SSL certificate on any site, regardless of if it takes any sort of payment (of any kind) or not.

This is something that you should talk to your hosting company about. While it is possible to do it yourself, most times you need to have a dedicated IP address (your web host will need to supply this) and have access to the main administrative panel of the server that you most likely don’t have.
