Move images from one site to another

It looks like something went a bit haywire with your import. For instance, on this post:

I’m not sure how you did the import, but I would recommend redoing it, or using a different import method. If you are importing from one WordPress site to another, in my experience, the built in WordPress export and import (Tools > Export in the source site, Tools > Import > WordPress in the destination site) is the most efficient method.

Yes! That’s exactly my problem! Thank you so much for taking the time to look at that. I don’t understand why that happened when I had the “download and import images” option checked on the import. And I DID use the built in WordPress export and import, but I’ll try it again!

I was feeling really confused about how it was supposed to work, so thank you for clearing that up.

Okay, I redid the export/import and it still did the same thing. There aren’t a whole lot of options in the process for me to be getting it wrong. Help?

That is some odd behavior on the part of those tools, and you’re right, there’s not many options, so I don’t think it’s anything you’ve gotten wrong. While we may never know exactly why this happened, I hope that I have found a solution. I’ve included links to a couple of plugins that should help, along with tutorials on using each of them that I found:

Are all of your images in your Media Library? If so, you just need to update the links in your content. You can use Velvet Blues Update URLs to fix that:

If all of your images are not in your Media Library, you can use Import External Images to bring in all of your images:

Hey gang,

I’m trying to duplicate my media library from an existing site onto a new site. Both are on the same Cpanel server so I was hoping that I could simply copy the uploads folder from one to another.

The copy/transfer was easy and the files are in the appropriate “wp-content/uploads” folder on the new site. However, when I go to the new site, none of the images appear in the media library? I didn’t think I had to use FTP to copy the files as they are on my dedicated server so file transfer was the easiest way to copy the 100+ images.

What am I missing??
