Colour changes for menu fonts
-
Hi,
Firstly I am a real newbie sorry, but wondering how I can change the font colour of the menus and links on my site, currently they are all a red/orange colour which I believe is quite hard to read.
My site is mybelovedstyle.com
Many thanks,
Aimee

Hey there Aimee,
How are you doing today?
This should be possible to change with some custom CSS. Please try adding the following CSS code in the style.css file of your child theme or add it in your site using the following plugin:
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/simple-custom-css
.main-navigation a { color: #999999; } .current_page_item a, .current-menu-item a { color: #f68060; }
Replace the color hex value to the one that you want. First part represents menu link text color and the second current menu item text color.
As for other links in your site please try adding the following:
.entry-content a { color: #f68060; }
This is also original color of the links, please replace color hex value. You can use sites similar to this one to get hex value for the color of your choice:
Hope this helps ??

One thing I wanted to add is that since you’re already using the Jetpack plugin, you can just activate the Custom CSS module that’s built right in. No need to install an extra plugin! Just go to your Jetpack Settings and activate from there: https://cloudup.com/cwmFQjZ7Goe
Thanks so much for your replies and apologies for my late one.
I am still lost, even with your great advice.
I can see where I can make the changes in jetpack with the Custom CSS module but get lost from there. I want to make the menus and links colour a dark grey colour but I have no idea how.
What would I type into the custom CSS to get this to happen?
So thankful for any replies.
AimeeHey again Aimee,
Sorry to hear you’re having issues with this ??
If you’re using Jatpack for custom CSS simply activate the Custom CSS module on the Jetpack dashboard, and then you can access the CSS editor via Appearance >> Edit CSS. When you’re ready to begin adding your custom CSS code, simply remove the message to get started or add your CSS after it.
This is the code you should add:
.main-navigation a { color: #999999; } .current_page_item a, .current-menu-item a { color: #f68060; }
As I said above first part represents menu link text color and the second current menu item text color.
As for other links in your site please try adding this:
.entry-content a { color: #f68060; }
You’ll also have to change the color hex value here (#f68060) to the one that you want. Please use the link in my previous post to get the color hex values for the colors of your choice.
Hope this helps ??
Best regards,
BojanHi Aimee – did Bojan’s new CSS guidance help you achieve the effect you wanted?
Hi!
I’ve used the above code to update the link color for the “continue reading ->” link as well as in text links, but I’m still having some trouble. (Green at the moment so you can see what is working correctly.)
The Recent Post links as well as the Tag Cloud (used for blog category buttons) text (when hovering) is still the original dark orange color. It’s also still the same for buttons (when hovering).
Here’s an example with all three: https://nanoanno.com/game-search/
If it makes a difference, I’m currently using this custom code for the tag cloud:
.tagcloud a { border: 1px solid #eeeeee; color: #999999; display: inline-block; font-size: inherit !important; letter-spacing: 1px; margin: 0 7px 7px 0 !important; padding: 0 7px; text-transform: uppercase; }
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hey there nanoanno,
How are you doing today?
For tag cloud and button hover border and font hover colors please try adding the following:
.tagcloud a:hover { border-color: #EFA459; color: #f68060; } button:hover, button:focus, button:active, input[type="button"]:hover, input[type="button"]:focus, input[type="button"]:active, input[type="reset"]:hover, input[type="reset"]:focus, input[type="reset"]:active, input[type="submit"]:hover, input[type="submit"]:focus, input[type="submit"]:active { border-color: #f68060; color: #f68060; }
Please note that these are original colors so you’ll have to replace color hex values to the ones of your choice.
Hope this helps ??
Cheers,
BojanHi Bojan!
Thanks so much for your help. That resolved of the tag cloud issue ??
It looks like the “Recent Posts” widget as well as some other items are still the red-orange color.
1) Recent Post links
2) Date and author links (underneath the post titles) – when hovering
3) Posted in ___ (at the bottom of the post) – when hovering
4) Previous and next posts (at the bottom of the post) – both hovering and not hoveringAny thoughts on those?
Ann
Hey Ann,
For those please try adding the following as described above:
1 For Recent Post links:
.widget a:hover, .widget a:active, .widget a:focus { color: #333333; }
2 & 3 should take care of both date and author links and posted in
.entry-footer a:hover, .entry-meta a:hover, .portfolio-entry-meta a:hover { color: #f68060; }
4 For previous and next links color:
.site-main .post-navigation .nav-next a, .site-main .paging-navigation .nav-next a, .site-main .post-navigation .nav-previous a, .site-main .paging-navigation .nav-previous a { color: #000; }
For previous and next links hover color:
.site-main .post-navigation .nav-next a:hover, .site-main .paging-navigation .nav-next a:hover, .site-main .post-navigation .nav-previous a:hover, .site-main .paging-navigation .nav-previous a:hover { color: #000; }
Replace the color hex values with the ones of your choice ??
Please let me know if this helps!
Cheers,
BojanHi Bojan!
Worked like a charm. Thank you so much ??
Any idea how to change the color in the footer? Both the hover for “Proudly powered by WordPress” and the social icon links?
Ann
Hey Ann,
To change the footer text color add the following:
footer#colophon { color: #999999; }
For footer links color and link hover color please add this:
footer#colophon a { color: #999999; } footer#colophon a:hover { color: #f68060; }
If the code doesn’t work please post link to your site so I can take a look ??
Best regards,
BojanHi Bojan!
That worked for the footer links.
I have a few more things on the site that still seem to be pulling the orange color:
1) The social icons in the footer
2) The blog post titles (when hovering)
3) I’m still struggling with the menu items. I have the code in place at the beginning ot his thread, but when I hover over the menu option, it is the orange color. And when it is selected on mobile, it is also orange.I would greatly appreciate it if you would help me with these things ??
Ann
Hey again Ann,
1. For this please add the following:
#colophon .social-links ul a:hover:before { background: #f68060; }
2. To change the hover color of the post titles please add the following:
.entry-title a:hover, .portfolio-entry-title a:hover { color: #f68060; }
3. As for hover color of the navigation menu item please add this:
.main-navigation li:hover > a { color: #f68060; }
Best regards,
BojanWorked like a charm!
Thank you SO much for all of your help with this custom CSS. That takes care of all of the links on this site.
You’re awesome!
Oh, I’m so sorry… I actually found one more spot:
For commenting on a blog post, if you are nog logged in it says “You must be logged in to post a comment.” and if you are logged in it says “Logged in as Ann. Log out?”
The hyperlinks over *logged in* and *Ann* and *Log out?* are still pulling the themes default color.
Is it possible to change those as well?
Thank you again!!
