Hi all. OK, I’ve got a doozy here…

I’m getting the 500 Internal Server Error only when I try to log in to the admin page and access the dashboard. The site itself is up and running. This happened after I hit the button to “authorize” (I think that is what it said on the jetpack page of the dashboard). Jetpack was installed and running fine, but then I hit the button on the big green splash screen that shows up in the dashboard.

So, here is what I have done so far to fix it…

    1. Logged in via FTP and renamed the plugin folder. Didn’t work.
    2. Added a php.ini file to increase php memory. Didn’t work.
    3. Changed the wp-options table, active-plugins to a:0:{} – Didn’t work.

I am at a loss how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated!

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble! Can you please reinstall the Jetpack plugin manually?

To do so, download the Jetpack plugin here:
    https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/jetpack.latest-stable.zip

Then, log in to your site via FTP, and delete the existing Jetpack plugin folder. You should then be able to reinstall the plugin manually by following the instructions here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation

I would strongly recommend that you make a complete backup of your website before trying this.

Please let me know how this works for you!

Hi Ryan. Thank you for your suggestion. I will give it a try. I currently have all the plugins disabled and I am still unable to get into the admin page, but I will try to manually install the plug in as suggested.

Hi Ryan. Ok, I installed jetpack manually via FTP after doing a full back up of the site and database. But I still receive an internal 500 error when trying to go to */wp-admin – so, even though it’s reinstalled in the plugin folder, I can’t access the dashboard to activate it.

Hi Ryan. Thanks for your continued efforts. Here is my site: goldstandardcatering.com

I have run into almost the exact same problem. After hitting install/authorize on the JetPack plug-in upgrade option that was on the top of my WP-Admin page, it returned with the 500 internal error. I have renamed the plugin, deleted and reinstalled, renamed plug in folder etc. Still no luck, I keep getting the 500 internal error page.

My error page reads a little different the jims, but that is probably just a slight difference in servers.

Well, I have mine back up and running. After I did the rename/delete/reinstall as mentioned above, I went to a different browser (actually I went to the worpress app on my phone) and was able to login, inactivated all plugins. I went back to my browser, cleared the cache-restarted and was able to login.
Started by turning on Jetpack, then each plugin one at time and now no issues.

Still no luck with my site. Tried via the app too and that didn’t work either. Haven’t had any response from Ryan either. I hate to have to entirely redo my site but maybe I will have to if I can’t get this solved.

Having the same problem here rigth after activating jetpack.

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

@jimhardinberg: Sorry for the delay! I had a look at your site, and Jetpack appears to be properly connected at the moment. Have you been able to get the issue resolved?
