• I get the following error in SNAP when posting using the goo.gl url shortner:

[goo.gl]- -=ERROR=- Array ( [headers] => Array ( [vary] => Array ( [0] => X-Origin [1] => Origin,Accept-Encoding ) [content-type] => application/json; charset=UTF-8 [date] => Mon, 02 Mar 2015 19:37:47 GMT [expires] => Mon, 02 Mar 2015 19:37:47 GMT [cache-control] => private, max-age=0 [x-content-type-options] => nosniff [x-frame-options] => SAMEORIGIN [x-xss-protection] => 1; mode=block [server] => GSE [alternate-protocol] => 443:quic,p=0.08 [accept-ranges] => none ) [body] => { “error”: { “errors”: [ { “domain”: “usageLimits”, “reason”: “ipRefererBlocked”, “message”: “There is a per-IP or per-Referer restriction configured on your API key and the request does not match these restrictions. Please use the Google Developers Console to update your API key configuration if request from this IP or referer should be allowed.”, “extendedHelp”: “https://console.developers.google.com” } ], “code”: 403, “message”: “There is a per-IP or per-Referer restriction configured on your API key and the request does not match these restrictions. Please use the Google Developers Console to update your API key configuration if request from this IP or referer should be allowed.” } } [response] => Array ( [code] => 403 [message] => Forbidden ) [cookies] => Array ( ) [filename] => )

I signed up for an api key but still get the same error. I'm assuming it is a per ip address limit which makes using goo.gl with SNAP useles.

It is especially troubling because I post using SNAP only about once a month if that I still get the rate limit.

I'm not sure if it is a plugin error but need some answers to try to work around this or at least let people know of this change in the shortner.

Are you on the shared hosting?

Google sets it’s limits on “Per IP” basis. If any other site using any Google API from the same IP it counts towards your usage.

Very disappointed to hear that Google started using a rate limit. I’ve been using the goo.gl shortner in SNAP for more than a year with no issues. I just started getting error reports.

I wasn’t using the short url to track clicks so I can use the native wordpress shortner. The other choices the plugin allows are too complicated to get working and requires me to register with other parties.

Can you add a note to your instructions that the Google shorter doesn’t work on shared hosting

    Thanks

Google shortener works fine on shared hosting until somebody else who your sharing server with consumes all the limit. This is the known downside of the shared hosting.
