Proper permissions for the uploads folder

    I’ve read the codex page on permissions, but I can’t seem to figure out the Proper permissions for the uploads folder. I maintain several WordPress installations and recently had a problem uploading images. (This seems to be a common problem for v4.1.1). I noticed that the problem installation had permissions different from the ones that worked.

    I can upload images with these permissions:

    4.1.1 root folder 755. wp-content 755. uploads 777. uploads subdirectories 777, files 666.

    3.8.5 root folder 755. wp-content 755. uploads 775. uploads subdirectories 777, files 666.

    I’m worried about the 777 – should I be worried?
