• Hi guys,

My site went down for a short period, and upon returning it seems that my “News” category doesn’t work anymore. The posts are still on the site, but the category thinks it has none and I cannot edit or change it.

In addition I have a blank post sitting in creation which doesn’t display and cannot be edited or removed at all.

Do you have any ideas how I can fix these issues?

    Thank you. ??

  • @pmurphy1978 Really hard to tell without the context. WP version? Are these default WordPress categories? Or are the missing category posts generated by a plugin or coded in theme?

    Hi,

I’m running 4.1.1 right now. The category that isn’t working was created by myself and is my standard news category. It *should* and did have 2800 posts in it. It currently thinks that it has none, but the posts are there, and strangely enough it thinks there are in news.

The post is only one post, doesn’t have a category assigned and seems to not actually exist, but can’t be edited or deleted. I’ve grabbed a screen to demonstrate.

I deactivated all the plugins and the issue was still there, and turning them back on didn’t do anything either.

I’ve been running for nearly three years and this problem only happened this morning.

    Thanks ??

    – Go to wp-admin dashboard menu Posts > Categories which will open up your Categories panel.
    – Check out how many posts are associated with the “News” category.
    – Click on the “View” link under the “News” category and this will open up to the “News” category page in the front end.
    – Confirm whether the published post is listed on that generated page.

My site went down for a short period, and upon returning it seems that my “News” category doesn’t work anymore.

Going back to the original post, did you find out why your site went down? In addition – what theme are you using? If you change to the Twenty Fifteen theme, does it show up?
