Can we actully optimize thumbnails instead of just resizing them?

  • I’ve hard coded a larger thumbnail size of 300px in my WordPress install. The only problem is that in many cases the thumbnail has a larger file size than the actual original file.

    It would be nice if a % or bit-depth optimization setting was available. Right now it seems that 8-bit PNG files are re-exported as 32-bit PNGs. JPGs are exported at maximum quality.
