    Hello,

I have been wondering how a page that displays a gallery using MLA, and whose text is all based on IPTC metadata descriptions, titles and captions, works with search engines.

Do search engines see the page as having content when all the text comes from the image metadata in a dynamically displayed gallery and is not part of the hard coded html of the stored page?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Here is a link to an article on the Yoast site about integrating their content analysis with plugin shortcodes.

Good to hear from you again, and thanks for your question.

I am far from an expert on SEO, but my understanding is that when search engines request the page for analysis, WordPress runs the shortcodes and returns the results as part of the page content. That means the “dynamically displayed gallery” looks like any other content on the page.

Plugins like Yoast SEO analyze page content to generate “social tags” and other data they can add to the page headers, etc. for use by search engines. Here is a link to an earlier support topic along similar lines:

Pull Featured Image from MLA Gallery

Thanks for posting the link to “Content Analysis with the WordPress SEO plugin”. It looks like this article explains how Yoast SEO tries to analyze post content to prepare “social tags”, etc. The [mla_gallery] and [mla_tag_cloud] shortcodes play by the rules and do not have any of the ugly side-effects described in the article. I am not quit sure how to use the wpseo_pre_analysis_post_content filter described in the article but when I have some time I will investigate how MLA might use it. I will leave this topic unresolved and post an update when I have more information.

Thanks for an interesting suggestion and for your continued interest in the plugin.

Thanks for the explanation and for looking into the Yoast filter.

    Are pages like: https://fairtradejudaica.org/product/small-hamsa-sun-catcher/ and
https://fairtradejudaica.org/product_category/menorahs/ using MLA galleries to display images and content?

I noticed that text from them shows in google searches.

Thanks for visiting the FTJ site and for your question.

The FTJ site was developed several years ago, long before MLA was started. The product and category pages are created by PHP code and WordPress Template files.

I have been so busy updating MLA and supporting its users that I have not had time to go back and renovate the FTJ site. It really needs a lot of work to be a modern, responsive, mobile-friendly site.

Thank you for working with me offline regarding the wpseo_pre_analysis_post_content filter in Yoast SEO.

I have implemented in the filter in MLA, but it does not update the SEO information in the way we had hoped. My efforts to contact Yoast about the filter have not produced a response and there is nothing more I can do in MLA to improve the situation.

I am marking this topic resolved. I hope you can find a way to work with Yoast or find another way to achieve your goal. If there is anything more MLA can do, please update this topic. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.
