Category not showing downloads

I am using version 2.7.89 of WPDM and can not seem to view the downloads available under the categories (https://mysite.com/download-category/category/). I am using the files from the twentyfifteen child theme in my site. The archive and single download seems to be working without issue, but I can not see how to get the categories archive working. I am not even able to call the categories using the_category(). Even using the Expo theme does not work. Is this an issue that I can fix myself? Or would it require a plugin update?
