• So I just figured out that switching from month and name format to post name format works best for me. I thought when I did this the old post links would remain the same, but it’s changed them all. I’ve had my site up since October. Now that all the links have changed, I’m sure I have to run around and quickly throw some redirects up so my backtrack links don’t bring up an error. It’s a mess. Anyway, I’m wondering if Google will penalize me for all the old links that aren’t redirecting?

  • make them redirect? there are plugins for 301 redirects, the main idea is to not make those old urls give a 404 not found, but to have them load while also telling crawlers to use the new url (it’s not like you can edit a link to you on a random forum, so at some point, someone is going to run into the old url & it needs to gracefully work)

as for google… well if you added your site on webmaster tools, you can make a request to remove old urls then add new ones or just refresh the sitemap

this question is an SEO/google question anyway, shouldnt be here in the minamaze forum or on WP at all
