I installed updraftplus in order to backup my site before updating wordpress. I clicked “backup now” and ever since then the site has been blank and unresponsive. I have left the updraftplus status page up and it occasionally changes the message to update the “resumption” count but the status stays stuck around 20%. This is extremely frustrating as I only did this as a precaution before updating the site but this backup plugin crashed the site.

    My hosting is through GoDaddy.
    The site is https://www.palmettobunkbeds.com

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

It sounds like you’re hosted on an extremely overloaded server, for which adding one more thing (like a backup task, that wants to read/compress/write a copy of the whole site), is tipping it over the edge into unresponsiveness. I see that the site is up again now – did it just come back by itself, or was something else needed?

Thanks for the reply. The site started sporadically coming up and functioning for a minute or two. I went in and disabled the plugin in one of the windows of time where the site was up and it started functioning normally. I don’t have anything running on the server that I know of other than a basic website. I guess it’s on GoDaddy’s end. Does this plugin normally function well with their hosting? I didn’t see anyone else with similar problems before starting this thread.
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

GoDaddy are generally fine (and, with 400,000 installs of UD, there’s a huge number of people using it) – but we do from time to time see evidence of extremely overloaded servers which GD don’t seem to be very pro-active in doing much about. (At least, when I’ve seen people on very overloaded servers, it’s not been unusual for them to come back a few weeks later still in that situation).

    Best wishes,
    David
