• I’ve been looking all over for a solution to this but I can’t find anything…

Anyway, when I search for my site name (circuit basics) in google, the result shows my author page – [email protected]. I need it to show the link to my home page.

I have noindexed the author page in the yoast seo and google XML site maps plugins, but that hasn’t fixed it.

I thought about deleting my author page but I’m not sure if that would work.

Also, if my author page shows up on page 3 in google, after I change it to show my home page, will it still be in the same position as my author page?

  • When I search for your site, I don’t see your author page anywhere in the results. The first page I see when searching for the terms circuit and basics is the category page https://www.circuitbasics.com/circuits/
    (higher keyword concentration I guess)
When searching the term as one work circuitbasics, the top result is https://www.circuitbasics.com/setup-lcd-touchscreen-raspberry-pi/ (you have commented on this page so the term circuitbasics appears twice)
Google is probably serving you different content based on old search patterns. Your home page description could include circuitbasics and probably you could add a meta keywords tag too to make the home page rise above. (can’t say I am a SEO guru, but just my 2 cents)

Okay, I tried searching for “circuit basics” (the term I am trying to rank for) on another computer and I did only see the category page in the results as you saw.

What if I tried noindexing all of my pages except for the home page and the posts? Would that negatively effect my ranking?

How do other sites control what page is listed I. Google as their main site page? Do we have any control over that? I see a lot of pages with nicely formatted search results for their home page, just wondering how to do that?

    Anybody?

Google Webmaster Tools has tons of info about how Google works – have you set up an account there and used the resources?

Yes I have an account at google webmaster tools. But I am a beginner at this and don’t have time to sort though tons of support pages and spend hundreds of hours researching the solution to this problem, which is probably common and has an easy fix. I am sure somebody here has the knowledge or experience to point me in the right direction…

I’m impressed by the lack of response here, I thought this was supposed to be a support forum.

These forums provide support for WordPress, and your issue primarily has to do with how Google works.

I don’t think it’s any easy fix at all – and it depends on many variables – most of which have to do with Google, not WordPress.

Also, when you say that you don’t have time to spend on this, have you considered that people helping out here are volunteers, doing this on their own time?

So going back to your question on WP side of things, are you using an SEO plugin – that might help:

BTW, when I searched for “circuit basics” the first one I got related to you is your Twitter page, and the second, the About page of your site.

Thank you, that helps a lot. Now I know at least where to start.

Okay, good to know… It has changed several times since I first posted. I think it’s because I no indexed everything except for my posts and pages. Just still can’t get my homepage to show up…

As this seems to be related to google, that means there is much more researching I need to so to find a solution than if it were WP related and i still have no clue how to even begin finding an answer. So if anyone has had this issue before, any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
