domain registration

  • I have an incredibly simple question but I can’t find any information on it at WordPress forums or the codex. (It doesn’t help that I can’t search ONLY the codex – when I search, it’s mostly forum).

    How do I register a domain with WordPress?

  • www.ads-software.com (here) does not register domain names. WordPress.COM (not the same thing) does (through a third party registrar). Unless you are hosting your site on WordPress.COM, probably better to use a registrar directly.

    Thanks for the quick reply. So I should register the domain elsewhere (with, say, bluehost) and then set up WordPress from there. I don’t need to register with WordPress, but I want to use WordPress for my CMS.

    If you want to use the self-hosted version, yes, it’s easiest to register the domain with your hosting company. Though you CAN register it with another registrar and set the nameservers to the hosting company.
