• Hey BJ,

funny thing happening. When I turn “Lazy Load images” on in the settings (only that one setting) my Google mobile pagespeed rating goes down from a yellow 65 to a red 54 with the following warning in “should fix” category:

    Prioritize visible content
Your page requires additional network round trips to render the above-the-fold content. For best performance, reduce the amount of HTML needed to render above-the-fold content.
The entire HTML response was not sufficient to render the above-the-fold content. This usually indicates that additional resources, loaded after HTML parsing, were required to render above-the-fold content. Prioritize visible content that is needed for rendering above-the-fold by including it directly in the HTML response.

Only about 5% of the final above-the-fold content could be rendered with the full HTML response

    Also this warning appears:

Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 3 blocking script resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
Approximately 63% of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
    Remove render-blocking JavaScript:

    https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js
    https://s0.wp.com/…ontent/js/devicepx-jetpack.js?ver=201514

The second warning does not seem to be related to image loading in a any way. Yet it only appears when lazy image loading is on. Very weird.

The other settings do not seem to make any difference as far as Pagespeed is concerned. It will be 65 with them on or off.

So now I am not sure if I should actually use the Plugin if it reduces my rating ?

    What do you think?
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I use Cloudflare now?
    No idea …

    ??

    edit:

Actually, Google will just show the first warning in the “Consider fix” category instead of the “should fix” category when Lazy load images is off. Nevertheless the rating definitely changes each time I toggle this setting on/off.

  • Lazy loading works using JS, Pagespeed likes as little or no JS as possible.
I would say keep it because it is a win-win for you and your visitor’s
Saves them time&bandwidth and saves you server load & bandwidth ??
