• I just noticed that one website is offering my free WordPress theme. Can they do that with a theme from www.ads-software.com? They even have a button for donation. The link is: https://wpfreethe.me/blog-fever/831

It’s a bit misleading on their part IMHO as it’s not clear that it’s not their theme but linking to the download link is allowed.

If they made a copy and remove all credit to the author then that would be rude but not much that could be done about it.

Thank you for your explanation, Jan.

In the readme file Yavor Spassov is cited as contributor, and not author.

It is a leftover from Underscores. They haven’t changed that.
    I’m the author.

I’m not sure if they are able to have the donation button. Have a look at this page, it may help.

The GPL really does not cover that part as it’s a license for software distribution. But soliciting donations for someone else’s work is dirty and dishonest.

I completely agree with your last statement, Jan Dembowski.

@jan are themes on www.ads-software.com not licensed under GPL also? It was my understanding that they were.

Also agree with it being dirty and dishonest.

@yavor perhaps you could approach them and tell them that its your theme and they shouldn’t accept donations for it. It may ‘scare’ them and they may remove it.

Yes, all themes on www.ads-software.com are GPL.
