• I’m at my end here, and reaching out here to get this resolved.

We have the latest ShareThis (7.0.20) on our outside blog. We’ve just upgraded to WordPress 4.1.1 and the ShareThis buttons are no longer visible. This is at https://www.edgehosting.com/blog/.

I’ve checked the configuration… and found that it does not show inside the ShareThis control page. On the above server, it’s giving out some permissions errors (even though I’ve reset the permissions on that server when I deployed this). On a test server it is not allowing me (as WP admin) to change the “blank” configuration.

A downgrade to 7.0.18 (which was deployed with WP 4.0 before the upgrade) also failed, producing the same results.

The only thing that I can chalk it up is that ShareThis is not compatible with WordPress 4.1.1.

  • Hi,

The ShareThis Plugin is compatible with the new WordPress version.
We have checked your website, it seems that ShareThis code is present but some other installed plugin or Website theme is not allowing the ShareThis buttons to show-up.
Here is the screenshot – https://screencast.com/t/Ub2f0lNinuq
You can try uninstalling and reinstalling a latest version of Plugin.
You can also check by changing the current website theme to default theme.

I do see the <SPAN> codes but I do not see any content inside that code on my end. I also see in your screenshot that you have the same issue.

I have already reinstalled the same code as well as downgraded it using your manual instructions and WordPress’s automated updater. Nether work, nor does changing the theme.

Your site seems to be SSL enabled, whereas the ShareThis code present on your site is for non-SSL sites.

ShareThis latest WordPress Plugin do support SSL/Secured websites. Please make sure that you have latest version of ShareThis WP Plugin.
And in the ShareThis Plugin Configuration menu, STEP-6, under “View & edit code:” there is an option for “http” and “https”.
You will have to check the button as shown in the screenshot – https://screencast.com/t/J6sB3bM9

    Hope this helps.

I have re-updated, and opened up the area. We have this set, but we do not have anything in the HTML tags.

I have also gone back to rework the configuration, but at STEP-1 I try to click a button style and it does *not* select.

I’ll CC this in email, but after digging a bit more, it’s breaking in both Firefox and Chrome due to newer policies set by the browser.

Nether browsers will let you mix https and http javascript content now. You’re serving some libraries from your site via http (Google is doing the same for JQuery, so some updates are needed there).

I second strredewolf on this. Numerous mixed content warning in the admin and you can’t change plugin settings if HTTPS is being forced sitewide (including admin).

For me, this appears to have been somewhat related to the way the previous developers had set up the multisite https. They were just forcing it via htaccess and had left the site URLs as http.

Updating the site URLs seemed to fix many HTTPS issues I was having and allowed me to access the ShareThis settings in the admin, where I had to re-save the new settings with the HTTPS version of share this (it didn’t update automatically).

Now, there still seems to be issues with mixed content for share this because I can’t go back and select a different style of Share This icons, etc (tried to set it up on another multisite site and no go). Luckily it let me save the settings on that final step/page to update it to the HTTPS, but it still looks like it needs to be looked at.

    Good Luck.

We have already raised this to our tech team and they are working on it. The issue will be resolved soon. We will get back to you as soon we hear from them.
    Thank you for your patience.
