Category and Archive links not working

Two questions:
– what happens when you set your permalinks to the default?
– what happens when you switch to another theme (classic or default)?

OK the categories and archives work when I switch to the classic theme.

When I go back to the theme I am working with and change the permalink to default the problem still exists.

Any other thoughts?

Only one conclusion: the problem is with your custome theme.

Agreed.l I don’t think it has anything to do with the theme because I am running this theme on another wordpress blog and the categories and monthly post archives work well.

I am not sure which page is used to create the categories and archives. Can you give me an idea of where I should start investigating.

Moshu, I just went there and managed to sort the problem out. I did not have a workable archive.php file. I uploaded one and it works fine. I think it was defaulting to the index.php hence every time I clicked a category or an archive link it looked for category.php, archive.php and then defaulted to index.php because those files were not there.
