    Hello,

I am interested in managing two themes on the same website, I mean on the same domain.
Im not sure if that means the same thing !?

Of course, I am not a web developer, I just need to use WordPress.

Because the name of the domain is ideal for both themes.
I want the two themes to be independent. I dont want to mix the themes.
So maybe I will have a main page from which the user can go to each part, each theme.

Is this possible, how can I manage this ?

do I need two admin dashboards ?

I wont have problems with the update of each theme ?

The two themes have to have different user profiles, the registered user from one theme have to create an other profile on the other theme if he wants to use both.

Thank you for your time. And sorry if this question seems stupid !

  • No, you cannot have two different themes on the same domain. You could create a subdomain with a different theme, and just create menu links that point to each one. For example, if your domain name is:
    animals.com
You could create a subdomain like:
    lions.animals.com
And the subdomain would have a different WordPress installation and theme.

Ok, thank you for you answer !

    And can I do this: animals.com/lions , animals.com/tigers ?

Does this work like subdomains , what is the difference ?

That will work as well. In fact, I see that quite often. Someone will have a main site that’s not WordPress, but then they’ll create a subfolder called blog and install WordPress into it to create a blog for their site.

You can go to the instructions for installing WordPress and do a search on the word subdirectory.

You would manage each installation separately (including theme upgrades), and each installation would have separate user registrations, because they will be independent from one another.

Ok, I have already à wordpress website on a domain, “adopteunmaitre.com”, so I was looking for a solution to add an other theme.

And do you know what is the best between lions.animals and animals/lions for the indexing ?

I don’t think there’s a difference, but I’m not an expert on Search Engine Optimization.
