I apologize in advance for not being very techie. I went to login to the admin site and nothing pulls up – it is just a white screen. Same with the website. I attempted to download FileZilla since I read that you can maybe change to the default theme but it won’t let me login. I even tried changing my password in wordpress but it still says authentication failed. I am using bluehost but cannot find where the ftp files are since I cannot login to the admin from there either. I am using the hueman theme if that helps.

Find your site files on the server and start by renaming the plugins folder:

    wp-content
       plugins.HOLD

Holy cow. Ok, I can now log into my admin site (thanks!) My website is still white – so what is my next step?

Now rename your active theme the same way – not the entire themes folder, just the one you are using.

When I find the hueman theme it doesn’t allow me to change the whole theme name. Is there a file within the theme that I can change?

Hmm, it should – are you trying to change hueman.HOLD ?

When I click on the hueman theme I get the list of files to the right, but the rename icon is not an option unless I click on a specific file within the theme.

Would adding a new theme on my admin page resolve this or would I lose all of my work?

Oh sure, if you can change themes from the Dashboard (I was thinking you couldn’t yet) – yes, activate Twenty Fifteen. You won’t lose anything.

Theme install failed for twenty fifteen. When I go to my main theme page it says that the theme directory twenty fifteen does not exist and that it was written by false.

I tried installing another theme and it said it failed also. So maybe we need to go back to your original fix. Is there a file within the hueman theme that I can rename?

Okay, so that indicates that there is likely a problem with the file permissions on that folder – you may need to use FTP to change these and/or ask Bluehost for help with it –

Thank you so much for your help! I wasn’t able to make changes to my file permissions so I did contact bluehost. They were able to restore my website – the issue was likely from a plugin update that caused my site to crash. Thank you again!
