Static Front Page – Duplicate Page

Hello. I am using WP 2.2 and have set “Options – Reading – Front page displays – A static page” to display a static page (called HOME) – this works fine. However the selected static page is being duplicated (as the 1st ite abd the last item) in the menu at the top of the page. Any ideas as to why?
