  • I get the same, does not work any longer.

I am also having this problem as of this morning. When talking with my hosting provider, they said it looked like the plugin had blacklisted itself? They were going to attempt to whitelist it, not sure how that works, but it is taking a long time and in the meanwhile my client is locked out. I know I have multiple users all accessing the site with a single password, but didn’t think that would be an issue. I get:
    405 Not Allowed
    nginx/1.8.0

    Uh oh, me too.

Anyone come up with a solution yet?

    Please see this support ticket.

If anyone could test the ‘wp-update-1.zip’ and ‘wp-update-2.zip’ versions of the plugin mentioned in that ticket it would help to narrow down the problem, at which point I will release a fixed version.

    Many thanks

    Ben

Hmm, no joy for me with either of those versions…

    Thanks again for your help.

Michael, was Password Protect version 1.9 working for you, and was it working OK before WordPress 4.2 upgrade.

Its been working great for months, I was thinking about downgrading WP but am a little worried it will require a database restore, also not ideal since I would lose the security upgrades as well.

I know this isn’t very helpful for other people but I moved my site to another server (went from someone else’s HostGator to my private Dreamhost server) and it’s working perfectly again.

Sorry to say I never got to the bottom of the issue, nor was HG tech support any help at all but I am glad its working again.

    Thanks for your help.

Maybe HG has some server-side caching that may cause the plugin to fail.
