    Hello,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I migrated a multisite installation to a new server (on Bluehost) with plans to add and tweak a bit before repointing the DNS. All went well with the database connection, so I know the wp-config file has been edited correctly. However, the temp URL immediately redirects to the live site on the old host (InMotion) — even in four different browsers with cache and cookies cleared. I used a brand new copy of WordPress 4.2, substituting only the existing wp-content folder, so the main .htaccess file has not yet been created. I cleared the cache before saving the database for import. According to Search-Replace-DB, no instances of poetscollective.org remain. Any other suggestions? Could it be a plugin issue?

Bluehost is unable to help. I have searched the web and this forum in vain, finding only one other mention of this particular problem, in a closed thread from a year ago, which remained unresolved.

I guess if all else fails I’ll forget the idea of testing and tweaking on the temp URL before the final move, but would really like to get to the bottom of this if possible.

    Thanks again,

    Mary

Check that you didn’t define the home and site URLs in wp-config.php?

    Also what’s in your ,htaccess?

Thanks for responding. Yes, I hardcoded the temp URL into the wp-config file both places, with no trailing slash. There is no .htaccess file yet. (I used a new copy of WordPress.) Should I create a fresh one manually? I’ve tried the one in use on the live site, but get the same result either way.

Don’t do that. ESPECIALLY not on Multisite. Those are meant to be temporary only.

    Remove it.

I understood from the Codex that it should be removed after the site was working correctly. As I said, though, it made no difference with or without it. It’s not an URL that anyone else has access to anyhow, but I’m removing all files for now. I appreciate your efforts to help, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to do this the way I had planned. I have plenty of time to make the move, so will just do it the normal way after I’ve tweaked the site to satisfaction in its current location.
