On my homepage I have a large photo of myself (because I’m vain like that) but the image is getting a bit out of date and I’d like to change it.

However, when I go into the dashboard and look at altering that front page, I can’t see any way of tackling this big central photo. I can change the background and the header, but not that picture of me.

If anyone can help, I’d be very grateful.

  • The theme you are using seems to be Responsive By CyberChimps. If you don’t get a quick answer here you may want to post your question at: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/responsive

Your home page picture is likely in a page along with the other brief content you see to the left of your picture. It may not be named Home but a look through your Pages should locate the correct page.

Then upload your new image using the Media Library. Edit the the new image to determine its URL and paste in the new URL in place of the old one.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. The only options I have down the left hand side, though, are Site Title, Colours, Header Image, Background Image, Navigation, Widgets and Static Front Page. I’ve looked into them all, but none of them address the big photo of me. https://www.katelongbooks.com/

Should I be looking somewhere else?

    Hi volewriter,

    1. From your Dashboard, navigate to Settings -> Reading.
    2. At the top of the Reading Settings you’ll see, ‘Front page displays’. There probably is a check beside ‘A static page’. If so, there should be a Page name listed under ‘Front Page:’.
    3. Note the Page name and then navigate to Pages -> All Pages.
    4. Locate the Page name from #3 above, and select Edit.

You should see the text and image as @wslade mentioned. From there you can:

Then upload your new image using the Media Library. Edit the the new image to determine its URL and paste in the new URL in place of the old one.

Let me know if that helps point in you the right direction.

Sorry, I can’t explain in any simpler terms how to make the change you want to make.

I suggested you post at your theme’s support because there are others there that can see exactly what you see because they are using the same theme. I hope they can be more helpful.

There is also the option of posting at jobs.wordpress.net for a freelancer.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply.

I went into Dashboard, Settings and Reading, and found the check was against ‘Your Latest Posts’. I changed it to ‘Static Page’ but when I looked at the options listed under Front Page, the only ones that came up were the other pages which I can already access. My Front Page isn’t named or listed.

    I’m really flummoxed.

wslade, I have posted on the theme’s support page but no one’s replied yet.

rwaynick, I wondered if my homepage might count as a blog post and then I could edit it that way, but when I checked, my dashboard said I had no blog posts.

Wow, thank you, laliz. I successfully swapped the photo by following your instructions.

However, because I can only do it apparently by pasting in code, which I’m not very good at, it’s come out too small. And because the editing facilities on this page aren’t like the ones on the other pages, I can’t play about with the size to get the proportions right.

So is there any way I can change my Home Page so it’s got the same edit facilities as the rest of the pages? For instance, if I changed it to a Static Page, would it get its own name and be reachable from the Dashboard alongside the others? And would I be able to shrink or enlarge the images as easily as the ones on those?

did you selected the image after clicking the little media icon? you can choose whatever image you like from media manager, it will automatically add the code.

Edit:- yes you can select a static page as home page too. keep experimenting. you can always revert back if you dont like it

And if you select a static page as a Home Page, will it have the picture-shrinking and enlarging facilities like the other pages?

I want to try, but I’m nervous I’ll ruin what I have.

    volewriter,

You should be able to size the image probably based on the screenshot that @laliz shared above. Just select the ‘Visual’ editor, instead of the ‘Text’ editor.

The trouble is, I don’t get any of those options shown in laliz’s screenshot. Mine looks like this: https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/165371/664a5fb35a4b1719abcb1662d7ab1814

Strange , icons for your editor isnt loading.

you can try disabling your plugins and see if that fixes this page.

Edit:- Just noticed 8 pending updates, it is better to remove inactive plugins/themes except for default wordpress theme. also keep all plugin/wordpress/themes updated to latest version after taking a backup

However, because I can only do it apparently by pasting in code, which I’m not very good at, it’s come out too small. And because the editing facilities on this page aren’t like the ones on the other pages, I can’t play about with the size to get the proportions right.

Upload your new image to the media library, and replace the URL below with the URL of the new image. Your current image is about 470×512, so you can start with those dimensions.

    <img src="https://www.katelongbooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/garden31-e1357411514609.jpg" width="470" height="512" />

Or you could add a new WordPress page, insert the image using the Add Media button. Once you resize it properly, switch from the Visual editor to the Text editor to get the code. Copy that code and paste it in your “Featured Content” section.

You see, I don’t even know how to do a back-up.

I’m going to go into the jobs section and see if someone will come in and sort it for me. I’ve spent hours and hours on it, and tried so many things but the bottom line is, I don’t know what I’m doing.

I’ve tried to make a new home page, one that I could edit like the others, but I don’t know how to add the menus. I’ve tried to edit the page by treating it as a blog post and going into Blogs, but my Dashboard’s saying I have no posts. I’ve tried to make my Home Page a static page, but the drop-down menu I get when I attempt this only gives me the names of other pages to save it as. So I’m giving up.

Thank you very much for all your help.
