• Just when I thought I was getting the hang of it, I find that my browser won’t open “www.example.co.uk/wp-admin/install.php”

When I enter this URL, nothing happens, just a white page while the status bar reads ‘done’.
I did’nt know if it was because the wp-config-sample.php file still had ‘sample’ in the filename so I tried removing that. (am I supposed to?) No difference anyway. All the details seem in order too and it just won’t load the script! I’m Stumped.

    Thanks, everyone.

  • did you follow the instructions?

Did you even read the instructions?

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5-Minute_Install

At least ONE of your questions is answered there.

I know you probably already know this and everything, but I wanted to ask because I recently figured out something very obvious myself, that I was doing wrong (and by very obvious, I mean VERY obvious. Something I am ashamed to say I was messing up Lol) but, the page your trying to use, you’re using your site.co.uk/ whatever your blog is/wp-admin/install.php . . . right? Because that’s where you should go.

I apologize if you already did that, I mean no disrespect. I just had to ask because I’ve done things similar to NOT pointing to the right page ??

And yes, you should rename the file

did’nt know if it was because the wp-config-sample.php file still had ‘sample’ in the filename so I tried removing that. (am I supposed to?)

    Yes.

First, follow the instructions as whoami indicated.

If that doesn’t solve your problem, you need to actually edit the contents of the wp-config.php as well as changing its name.

whooami, Yes I have read the instrutions. I even have a book on WordPress which I am also following but the problem I encountered isn’t covered anywhere! I would read instructions before asking for help!
Normally ‘it just works’ but for some reason when I open that install.php file in the browser still nothing happens.

MrMist, why do I need to edit the contents of that config file? Is that where the problem lies do you think? I have checked and double-checked the contents of it are correct.

BTW – I have now renamed it. I didn’t think it was meant to have ‘sample’ in the name but I thought I’d check!

    Thanks for continued support.

MrMist, why do I need to edit the contents of that config file?

Because you have to replace the “sample” info with your own:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress#Step_3:_Set_up_wp-config.php
    ‘wordpress’
    ‘username’
    ‘password’
    ‘localhost’
need to be replaced with the values given by your host or with the values you got while setting up the database.

I knew I had to edit the file from the first instance, I just thought Mr.Mist was saying I had to edit it /again/.
The problem I’m having is that when I open wp-admin/install.php to begin the install, the page does not load. I have checked the config file many times – all seems in order.
I cannot get that php page to load! ??

youre installing this on IIS — are you sure that where you are installing wordpress actually supports it?

Is there any solution for this. My problem seems to be the same:

When I enter this URL(wp-admin/install.php), nothing happens, just a white page while the status bar reads ‘done’.

Well, I am using StreamLine net hosting. They set me up a database and they did say they DO support php.
What else could be perhaps UNsupported?
