hi there,

I have been using your plugin XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 4.0.8 for quite a while and does the job well. I have one question: why when i publish a post the sitemap doesnt seem to be re submitted to bing webmaster tools right away? Noticed it yesterday..

on the plugin page I get:

Google was successfully notified about changes.
Bing was successfully notified about changes.
Notify Google about updates of your Blog ACTIVE
Notify Bing (formerly MSN Live Search) about updates of your Blog ACTIVE

so it’s all good.

So it seems bing has been notified etc

In my GWT dashboard instead works great and every time i publish a new post the sitemap is resubmitted immediately without touching a thing.

Whats the deal? Is Bing simply slower?

I did a post yesterday evening and as of this morning on BWT dashboard/sitemaps it still doesnt reflect the new post published – sitemap submission date is 24.05 so 5 days ago when in fact i resubmitted it manually if i am not wrong.

I may have found something…

I went to the Debug section and it seems the plugin is pushing the sitemap to BWT with the following URL:

https://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?siteMap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mysite.com/sitemap.xml

BUT from Bing’s FAQs page https://www.bing.com/webmaster/help/how-to-submit-sitemaps-82a15bd4 it seems they changed the structure:

PINGING BING USING A HTTP REQUEST

If you have an automated system that generates your sitemap, you may find it easier to inform Bing about your sitemap by sending a HTTP request. Using your favorite method to send the request, use the following URL, replacing the example with your sitemap location and URL encoding everything behind the sitemap parameter:
https://www.bing.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com/sitemap.xml

could that be the culprit?

plugin is pushing to https://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?siteMap= but bing says it should be https://www.bing.com/ping?sitemap=

Hi

Ive edited the plugin file so it pushes to https://www.bing.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com/sitemap.xml but didnt see any difference, bing still does not update sitemap when i published a new post.

Anyone??

it seems that now Bing has refreshed its sitemap but he takes it easy (after some XX days, even if you add posts but there’s some automation going) and I have to say if you are in a hurry and push an URL with “Submit URLs” in Bing, it’s really FAST (same day). faster than Google with “fetch as”.

I wrote a message to Bing support about this and they are investigating it anyway.

hi – I just received an official answer from BWT support

“Our sitemap fetching has limited capacities and the system may not schedule an immediate recrawl when sitemap changes as we cannot detect those changes. Relatively long refresh interval is expected but we expect to improve this in the next one or two months”

Having said that, I noticed that they are 1-2 days behind when you update a post, so it will update, just a bit slow ?…which is NOT that bad after all. What was surprisingly fast was “Submit URL” from BWT, I got a post indexed the same day.

I did mod the plugin to https://www.bing.com/ping?sitemap=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com/sitemap.xml so I will leave it for now.
