CPU quota exceeded errors
-
I keep getting errors that I’m exceeding my cpu quota. I’m not running any crazy type of plugin and I have less than 1000 uniques a day. My server is with bluehost
Any advice?

Mike,
I’m on Bluehost too. Could you list you plugins for us?don
i’ve been having this problem constantly for the past four months.. i’m on BlueHost, i disabled awstats and all other stat program, i’ve changed my theme to the default wordpress theme, and disabled all plugins..
i’ve had that message come up as often as every 3 minutes while navigating my site.. that is absolutely ridiculous! what could it possibly be???
here is a sample of my cpu exceeded logs..

Tue Nov 6 00:21:15 2007: used 0.26 seconds of cpu time for HTTP Request: area-77.com : POST /blog/wp-comments-post.php HTTP/1.0seems that the wp-comments-post.php has been logged the most.. could there be an error with the script?
the only solution i found that worked for me (and many other BlueHost members with the same problem) was to switch to another host.. i haven’t seen that error message since.
Lovely. I’m getting that problem too, ever since I switched <i>to</i> Bluehost because WordPress advertised it as a supposedly WordPress-friendly site.
I only switched to Bluehost because it was recommended by WP. What a stupid mistake that was – they’re HOOP!
They might have lots of bells and whistles but their uptime is awful and they can be extremely slow to serve their pages.
WP should be more careful what they put their name to!
Where is WordPress recommending BlueHost? Everything I’ve ever heard about them is bad, so I would not recommend them.
Never heard anything bad about A Small Orange, except that if your site gets popular they can become expensive.
Otto Bluehost is the highlighted host under the hosting section in the nav menu.
Ahh, I see that now. Maybe we should tell the devs about all the problems we’ve seen people have with them, I’ve never seen anybody say that BlueHost was a good host on the lists when people post “what hosting service should I use?”.
There are some things we have done on our side aside from educating our customers on the need to optimize and index their databases.
In the past months we have written a new cpu limiting script which is much more generous
https://mattheaton.com/?p=119We have also been researching and developing tools that will make individual user tracking much more accurate, allowing us to zero in on the few users who are making the hosting experience miserable for everyone.
https://mattheaton.com/?p=146I’ve been pulling my hair out over the same issue with exceeding CPU cycles. I’m also a Bluehost customer and have been annoyed by what’s been happening (“your account has been suspended”).
After disabling plugins and widgets and whatever else to try and isolate the cause and not really getting anywhere I had a breakthrough this afternoon.
I logged a support call a few hours ago on this very issue and it was suggested to me that I need to run a repair and an optimize on all my db’s. Using the phpmyadmin tools available through CPanel I did what was suggested and ran the repair and optimise on all my databases.
So far (fingers crossed) and after some testing – this seems to have resolved the issue.
Contrary to what others on this and other forums have mentioned about Bluehost – I have been happy with their product and more importantly their service – the support guys do a top job!
The challenge of running a shared hosting service is a difficult one and in the end the greater the flexibility given to us to customer the greater the need to take responsibility with how we use the shared resource.
One little suggestion to Mike from Bluehost and also the WordPress crew – it would be nice to have access to some decent tools to assist me in diagnosing CPU type issues. There do appear to be some very inefficient plugins and code out there and it would nice if the cause could be nailed down faster rather than going through a process of slow and often futile elimination.
The Bluehost logs are great but we need to know a little more than: CPU cycles were all used up by index.php. I’m hoping that Mike in his post a couple of weeks ago was actually referring to giving us (with time) some additional tools to assist with diagnosis.
Any WordPress or Plugin developers reading my response may also like to comment on the above.

I must have spoken too soon!
The dreaded account suspended messages are back.
They seem to come and go. I feel rather lost without some decent tools to help me diagnose this issue further.
It concerns me greatly that my readers are seeing the ugly “account suspended” message as well.If anyone reading this is able to guide me towards some good tools thta will help me to resolve this issue – please drop a line.
Thanks,
R
What’s your domain Rschilt? I’d like to have my henchman take a look at your site.
On a totally different host I also had issues with two WP blogs. In my case this was the scenario:
– I tend to open many tabs in my browser, and as it happened, I was in the Write subpanel in a blog
– forgot about the open tab
– WP was endlessly autosaving the 1 line “post” I started
– in 24 hrs my CPU usage went through the roofSo, disable the autosave and don’t leave tabs/windows open too long ??
Hi Mike,
Appreciate the response.
My domain is: trupela.com
Thanks,
Robert
