Plugin editor returning 404 error

Have you tried to manually update the Plugin through FTP?

404 sounds strange. is rest of your website working fine? pretty permalinks? you can connect via FTP and edit plugin files too.

also why you need to edit a plugin file? a plugin update will wipe off all your changes.

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought that you were getting an error when trying to update, not edit. Regardless, you could still try to replace the edited file through FTP. Also, I found an article about The Right Way to Customize a WordPress Plugin that might help.
