Moving from WordPress.com to www.ads-software.com

    I’m new to WordPress and was hoping for some insight from those more experienced than I…

    I recently started a Worpress.com blog and I really like the idea of moving over to www.ads-software.com for a variety of reasons.

    Mainly though, I would like the flexibility of placing ads in the sidebar to earn a little money and offset hosting costs.

    I’m not very good with CSS, but I’m not too bad with HTML. I notice that WordPress doesn’t allow access to the HTML, therefore all customization is done via CSS.

    I guess my question is, is there an easy way to customize the side bar and plug in banners / ad code using www.ads-software.com? I don’t want to start spending money, and get in over my head without fully understanding the platform.

  • Just for reference, wp.org does not do hosting. You are aware of that, right?

    Actually you are allowed access to the html indirectly. Take a look at the theme files within your wp-content/themes/ subdirectory to see them. They’re fairly easy to modify sine they’re just simple text files.

    You may want to search the forums here for previous threads on teh topic. (ie ‘sidebar banner’) There are plugins and widgets that you can install to do the banners and whatnot as well.

    Many thanks for your reply.

    Yeah, I did know I had to find my own host. The thing I wanted to be sure of was that I would be able to achieve my goal of placing some ads to help offset the hosting costs without too much coding.

    I guess another question I’m unsure of is I’ve heard that widgets like the adsense manager could get you banned from google because it violated some part of their TOS. Could you offer any insight into that?

    Its not necessary that we use widgets / some adsense plugins to insert adsense units in wordpress. You can add the adsense code directly in the source code by going to

    presentation > edit theme >

    and editing the respective pages.

    But if you prefer easy way of inserting the adsense code then I would recommend Adsense wordpress deluxe plugin or Adsense Injection plugin. try google search for more plugins.

    regarding compliance with adsense tos, you could contact them before using any plugin (to be on the safer side).
