Upgrade turns Admin to Subscriber

Attempting to upgrade from 2.0 to 2.2, I got through with no problems, but after updating the database, I got “WordPress Error: You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” and couldn’t get into wp-admin. I tried the solution described here https://markjaquith.wordpress.com/2006/03/28/wordpress-error-you-do-not-have-sufficient-permissions-to-access-this-page/ which allowed me to log in to wp-admin, but I suddenly had only the permission to edit my profile. Looking in the SQL information, Admin is still user 1, with user_level 10, and “a:1:{s:13:”administrator”;b:1;}” permissions, so I’m not sure what went wrong.
