• Hi, I’ve been having problems with the <!–more–> tag not working when a user implements it from their dashboard. I have tried to google this subject for hours now and I’m not getting the answer that is working for my site. Am I supposed to be enabling something in order to get it to work? Nothing in the documentation states such. I tried the_excerpt() and that works just fine. I just can’t get the_content(‘Read More..’);. to show text up to the cutoff; it merely shows the whole post no matter what I do. What could be the issue?

I’m using a template system that might be a little older. Fall Leaves by NodeThirtyThree.
I am running WP 2.2 still. I haven’t upgraded yet.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Could you elaborate a bit on what “not working” might mean? Or offer a link so folks can see the problem in action?

I mean that I always see the whole post and <!–more–> doesn’t do anything.

That is the quickest response I’ve ever gotten in a forum. That’s awesome.

Okay, I see what my problem is. A couple more hours of searching and I found that the <!–more–> tag does not work on Pages by default. I created a custom page template that I thought would work around this but apparently so far not working. At least this gives me a start as to what is the problem though.

A Page is a Page… why would you want “more” on one?

I wonder if you’d be more interested in Category_Templates

oh, i didn’t know about them because i didn’t have them in my theme. thanks i think this would be better for my needs.

hmm, actually after reading about them, i can’t use category templates. i uses page names and numbers to organize the button bar on the top of the site. Some of those pages happen to match a category and when that happens it populates the page with the posts in that category. It was the only thing I could think of at the time.

My problem is the link in the “Read more” is incorrect nor it lead to the whole post when i change my permalink. How do i fix this?
