• Updated WordPress and Plugins Now My Site is Down. Please Help.

I tried to loaded and it says down for schedule maintenance. I check all the server status and they are all up. Now when I go to https://www.drinkandclick.com/blog/ a blank page shows, nothing else. Could someone guide me on how to recover my site?

    Thank you

  • Hello, drinkandclick, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

I tried to go to your site &, indeed, it appears not to be loading.

If you’re not using a WordPress default theme, i.e., 2012-2015, then, either through your hosting provider’s control panel or via FTP (preferably secure FTP), please go to your wp-content/themes folder & rename your current theme folder by adding a 1 or a .old to the end of that folder name. Now please try logging into your blog.

If that worked, then please choose a new theme for your site.

If that did not work, then please rename your wp-content/plugins folder in the same way you renamed your theme folder & try logging in again.

If that worked, then what you’ll need to do is to rename your plugins folder back to plugins, but go inside & append a 1 or .old to every folder name except 1. Try leaving the Akismet plugin w/its original name first, & log in. If you can indeed log in, then change your plugin names back one by one till the last renamed plugin halts the login process.

It might also be instructive for us to see your .htaccess file, as I noticed when going to drinkandclick.com that it redirected to drinkandclick.com/blog . So there may be a misconfiguration somewhere in the .htaccess file as well.

Lastly, your hosting control panel may well provide error logs, & these entries might prove instructive.

    Jackie, thank you very much.

the theme.old didn’t solve it but the content.old did. I tested each plugin like you suggested and they all work ok without the .old.

Now I need to check what other item is creating the conflict. Any suggestions?

    THanks again

    I found it.

    Jetpack and mythemeshop-connect

both have to have .old to be able to work. What are my next steps to replace those or having work with my site?

Drinkandclick, could you tell us what functionality is missing from your site w/o those 2 plugins?

It’s always best to run a site w/as few plugins as possible & to delete unused themes. Running lots of plugins can slow down your site, conflict w/each other, & just generally create more opportunities for a website attack.
