• Hi

I sure hope someone can help me with this.

A couple of months ago my Dashboard link disappeared in wp-admin. This has resulted in Permission errors (You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.) on several admin links including the ability to update wordpress which I have set to automatically update but for the new 4.2 it keeps asking me to update. When I click the link again, the permissions error. Most links in the top bar give me the permissions error also.

I have replaced ALL admin files using FTP as well as deactivating all plugins AND renaming the plugins folder to no avail.

HOW can I get this dashboard link back so I can get my wordpress admin working properly again??

    Help please!

  • Hi, jarodsafehouse71, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

Could you please provide us a link to your site?

Hi again, jarodsafehouse71. Ok–so it looks as though you’ve actually installed WordPress to a folder called wp. It appears also that you might have another existing site on https://www.jarodsafehouse.com/_jarodsafehouse/

Further, it appears that YOU’VE GOT SOME SORT OF MATH CAPTCHA GOING ON YOUR LOGIN SCREEN.

Is your host a Linux or Windows machine, do you know?

I think getting rid of the captcha is the first step. If you’ll tell me whether your server is a Linux or Windows machine (I suspect Linux, but…), then I can give some further instructions about the file structure that needs to be in place.

Copies of any error messages you’re getting would also be very helpful.

    Hi Jackie!

Sorry it’s taken me so long to respond. So much going on in my life. Been very busy with home renovation and took a bad spill and hurt my back something awful so haven’t been around much to even look at the site.

    Ok, I have deactivated captcha.

    My host is Linux CentOS.

I have wordpress installed in it’s own folder (wp) and yes there is an “old” site at https://www.jarodsafehouse.com/_jarodsafehouse/. It’s NOT a wordpress site.

You can view the error message I’m receiving here https://www.jarodsafehouse.com/_wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Screenshot_3.jpg

    Thanks Jackie!

    Karen

Karen, apologies for taking this long.

So–ahem. I happen to be completely blind now. The program I use to make my computer talk to me, called a screenreader, doesn’t cope w/pictures. I wrote to the WordPress forum mailing list to see if anyone would help me translate the error, but no one volunteered, unfortunately.

So could you just please tell me what the error message says? I’m really sorry. Most of the time my eyesight problem doesn’t interfere w/my being a support forum volunteer, but occasionally…

    Ugh, not nice!!

    It simply says:

You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.

This occurs from most items at the top of the dashboard (top bar) also includes being able to manually update wordpress.

Well, & how would you know? Thanks for the translation. I just feel bad my pride prevented me from asking sooner.

See if this helps, & please request clarification. The part of the article most likely applicable to you is the portion dealing w/PhpMyAdmin.

Let us know, if you would, whether that was helpful, too intimidating, not the problem, etc.
