  • Hey Astrid,

Thanks for getting in touch, we’ll try and get this sorted out for you.
So you’ve added the products that you’ve created into the tomatoes catalogue? When you create or edit a product you can designate which category you want it to be in, but you should create the category first.
Have you made sure to add the products to the category as well as to your catalogue?
If you have added the products to a category then when you add those products to a catalogue the category they are in should be included on the sidebar.
If you want the categories to appear as sections within the catalogue as a whole you can add the categories themselves to the catalogue on the catalogue details page.

Hi, thanks so much for being so prompt. I added the products to both, I think because it says 2 products in category. However, I have no sidebar show up, just the one I set up before. I have also installed Woocommerce and tried to do a catalogue through them, but found it didn’t work the way I wanted to. Do you think that might interfere with your plugin? This is the URL to my page https://seedsanctuary.wpengine.com/tomatoes/

    Thanks again,

    Astrid

I deactivated Woocommerce, but no sidebar shows up. It also appears that the plugin is only set up for a right sidebar? Would it work with a left sidebar? Also, I tried to put in the shortcode [starting_layout=’Detail’] [excluded_layouts=’Thumbnail, List’] to get rid of the blue choices on the page, but when you go to the page you’ll see that they didn’t do anything and show up as text. Thanks for your help!

    Hi Astrid.

Thanks for getting back to us. Looking at your page now it looks like you got the shortcode working and that you have the right sidebar set up. Is this still an issue for you?

Currently, there is no simple way to move the sidebar to the left but that’s an interesting feature suggestion we’ll keep in mind.

Hi, yes, thanks, I figured a few things out.
Is it possible to make the database searchable by name and kind and to also sort the list (say by the top 50 seeds)? Also, when I click on the link (name of tomato) I would like to link to another page with more info. It seems that I can only put in details info and it shows up with the name on the catalogue page, but I don’t want all the info there, only on a different page.

    Thanks!
    Astrid

    Hi Astrid,

For your first question, it is possible to search by Name, Description and Custom Fields and to use the checkboxes in the sidebar to filter the catalogue by category, subcategory and tags. Unfortunately, searching the database/list by the top 50 seeds is not a feature we have at this time.

As far as the details info and the product page is concerned- the products by default are linked to the product page with more information, to remove the description that shows up in the details view of the main catalogue page you can change the “Characters in Details Description” setting on the options page to 0 and then none of the product’s description will be displayed until you click through to the product details page.

We have a number of recently added tutorial videos for the Ultimate Product Catalogue plugin on our YouTube channel which may be useful for you:

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for your quick response. Do I need to get the paid version to be able to put the search functionality in?

    Hi Astrid,

Tags are a premium feature but the general search function is available in both free and paid versions. The search feature is at the top of the sidebar on the right currently labelled “Product Search”. For search functionality, you have the option of either AJAX of Javascript filtering. We usually recommend AJAX because case insensitive search is only supported by AJAX filtering and the Javascript option is not supported by a team.

So if I wanted to be able to search by more than one feature, say name and kind, I would have to get the premium version?

    Hi again,

I was just taking a look at your page and wondered if maybe there is an issue with the shortcode syntax?

Does yours look this this (with your proper catalogue id instead):

    [product-catalogue id='3' starting_layout="Detail" excluded_layouts="List, Thumbnail"]

    Hi Astrid,

Could you explain what you mean by kind?
Anything that’s in the description should be included in the search.

    Thread Starter AstridF

    (@astridf)

Yes, that’s the code I put in. Why do you think it might not be right?

    (@astridf)

For example ‘De Milpa’ Purple Tomatillo (Physalis ixocarpa) Tomatillo Seeds (Physalis ixocarpa). It can be classified by the name (‘De Milpa’ Purple Tomatillo (Physalis ixocarpa) and the kind (Tomatillo Seeds (Physalis ixocarpa)). So is there a way to give the user a choice of search, by name or kind?

It looks like when using search and filtering features your catalogue page, it defaulting to the thumbnail layout. This isn’t an issue we’ve encountered before so we wondered if it might be related to your shortcode, following from your earlier question.
There may be a conflict with the search bar you’ve set up on the right hand side but the search functionality seems to be working on our end.

For searching by kind and by name you can use both the checkboxes and the search and that should cover both.
