Event widget not displaying correctly

I recently added the Event Registration Upcoming… to our site and have an issued when any page with the widget is initially loaded. Instead of “May” the calendar item says “Nbz” and the description is garbled. When inspecting the element the text is correct in the debugger.
If the page is refreshed or the browser width is resized to cause the layout to refresh, it then displays correctly. This only happens in Chrome; IE is fine. It happens on more than one computer.
Chrome has been updated to the latest version. Event Reg has been updated to 6.01.08. Worpress is running 4.2.2 with the Twenty Twelve theme. There are some CSS mods but even if these are disabled it still happens.
All the html and css look correct but the browser is not rendering correctly for some reason.
